:-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

:-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

As you can see I’m quite happy with life – not that all I want has suddenly dropped in my lap; far from it, I’m still laying the path to the goal…hopefully by the end of this year, it will all start falling into place. Absit Omen!

Now what then could be the reason for this sudden cheer? Bingo – Bombay it is!

Was there for a very short trip this weekend – to attend the wedding reception of a friend’s (Shivaji, who I once taught French!) elder brother – but as usual the trip packed a wallop! The wedding reception experience by itself was a mixture of fun; interesting conversations and some very nice people I met as well as some moments of boredom and exasperation. Typic wedding experiences I guess – what struck me the most in the one day I spent with them was how close-knit they were as an extended family. Sanjato’s (Shivaji’s elder bro) friends are an extremely interesting lot – warm, grounded people who’s affection for each other is very visible. Makes the heart grow warm seeing friendships like that, where you don’t consider your friend’s relatives as just that, but as part of your own family; where you care for your friend and bend backward if necessary and come to his/her aid immediately; where the level of comfort is so high, that you don’t mind any criticism, infact you welcome it and enjoy the chance to lock horns with your friend (or opponent in this case) knowing that the exchange is a healthy one that will lead you to a resolution of conflicts/dilemmas…hope my friendships are headed in that direction! Vive l’amitie! Ofcourse there was the entire Bong experience, which deserves an entire post by itself – soon I promise!

Apart from that, let’s see – I managed to meet both my favourite men (Amit and Kunal) and gave them the Banana Cake I’d baked for them…spent two lovely evenings with them. Also managed to meet Smita aunty this time – she’s not only abandoned her husband in Pune, she’s forgotten about our existence too; so I went to remind her that we are still alive! ;-) And ofcourse Tasu – very girl-discussion-rendezvous where we shared our woes about men, love, relationships and the future as far as career is concerned…

All in all a fab trip – also managed to earn some brownie points by coming to the aid of a friend, who, at the last moment, needed to have his girlfriend from out of town put up somewhere coz she had nowhere to go and he could definitely not take her home! Just hope my samaritan actions don’t boomerang on me!

Looking forward to the Pune International Film Festival, which starts on Friday – lotsa interesting movies to watch, specially the French ones. More about that later ofcourse, as I go through the experience. But right at the outset – I must thank the two guys who made me aware of PIFF (Akshay and T*****); specially T***** for leaving me with little choice but to register. :- )

PS Just made me some delicious Dutch waffles, which were very unlike the French waffles I had atop the Eiffel Tower, but yet sent me down nostalgia lane. Ok people I need you to pray that my plans work out, so I can go back to France and relive all those mind-blowing, soul-enriching experiences!

PPS Bombay had too many mosquitoes this time! :-(

Banana cake and waffles. Yum.
Nothing like a trip to Bombay to soak in the pollution. I love to do that, plus take a crash intake of retail therapy.

Banana cake, dutch waffles ... how about some nice desi food. Gulab Jamun anyone? Seriously though, everytime you mention that you had a blast in Bombay, I feel a huge pang of jealousy!

Do always manage to squeeze so much into two days, amazing really. All I end up doing when I'm in the Big City is sleep or stare at apartment across the road.
Or contemplate life passing me by.

PM - Totally agree about the Yumm part, specially since I made the stuff anyways ;-) But soaking the pollution - ahem - excuse me, but didn't I read somewhere that good ol' Pune is among the top 10 most polluted cities? And don't I daily read that the pollution level is as high as 186 when the acceptable limit is 50? Sure enough Bombay hits you as a dirtier city, with the slums and garbage everywhere, but Pune is not exactly pollution-free you know!
(That was a rant from a Bombay-phile!)

Parth - did I ever mention I'm very firang in my food tastes;-) Btw burn some more dude - I was at the Rock beach on Sat eveg! Oh - remmeber those bungalows at Macchi Maar, used for film shooting? They've been bought by Reliance and are being converted into some kind of information/communication center as we speak...beach has tractor marks all over...quite creepy seeing that kind of change in Versova!

JPR -Thanks babe! Tumhare mooh mein ghee shakar

Akshay - Baccha, why do you think I love that city so much? It breathes life into me, like nothing else...ok little else! ;-) Seriously, how do you stay at home in Bbay? I'm just itching to be out - infact this time was a pretty relaxed trip...usually it's much more hectic!

Madusa - 24th Jan - c'est le jour! Was wonderful meeting up yaar, as always! :-) Next time pukka - either we go to the Univ or to her place, ca va?

haanG, agree that Pune is pretty polluted, but isn't Bombay more? The traffic, humidity and pollution combo can get to you. Yet I miss having lived there most of my life. which is why i go whenever to soak in the energy (and the pollution :-))

LOL..actually Adi it's the other way around - if I'm missing Pune, I can light up a pack of ciggies in Bbay. The air here is like really high on pollution yaar (as I said earlier 186 when it should be 50) - all those trees fool you into thinking its a clean city. In reality the vehicles pump in fumes into the atmosphere as PUC isn't compulsory so far (the biggest culprits being the PMT buses which throw out black fumes that could actually turn you black if you're caught behind the bus)....not to mention the wide-scale construction going on all over Pune, which means lots of fly-ash in the air, which aint really good for anyone's bronchial tubes or lungs!

Bbay Rocks yaar - no other city can beat it;-)

I rest my case... :-)

There is a lot that has changed from my undergraduate days in Bombay few years back. In my last month visit, I found no black smoke in the air(thanks to unleaded petrol). Bandra(where I used to live) has become more beautiful than before. The magic of Bombay is hard to resist. So here goes my :-):-):-) along with yours.
