Puzzled...

Ever wondered :

1. Why Indians hardly frequent museums – shouldn’t museum visits be an integral part of every person’s childhood (& parenthood, for that matter), specially considering that as Indians, we pay a measly little sum of Rs.25/- at most museums, and that they are an excellent source of the country’s rich historical background & heritage culture, not to mention an “outing” for the little ones?

2. Why Indians returning from a stay abroad, or NRI’s visiting the “pyaara desh” for a holiday complain about the poor infrastructure, the bad roads, the slums and filth on the streets, the corrupt officials etc etc, when so many times it is there very people who throw every last vestige of basic civic sense out of the window, and carelessly spit on the road, litter the streets with assorted junk, and bribe the local pandu for breaking the signal without blinking an eye?

3. Isn't it time we shrugged off that “Hum to aise hi” tag and started doing something to make maximum use of the endless resources of manpower, natural wealth & culture, instead of merely mouthing inanities about all this at the annual beauty contests? That we started standing up for our own country when someone blithely criticizes it, instead of shame-facedly apologizing for it’s faults?

Hmm…

Hey
I'm from Toronto and I just wanted to let you know that a student newspaper published a list of interesting museums across the world and The Sulabh Shochalya (toilet I think)museum from New Delhi was listed. Sadly I never checked it out although my school bus used to go by it everyday :( Are you in Delhi?
Anyway, you can drop by my blog if you want:

Hi P thanks for that comment - I'm not from Delhi or in Delhi, so I haven't the faintest idea abt the existnce of the Sulabh Shauchalay Musuem (you got it right that's a public toilet)...if there is one, man I'm amazed at the genius behind this one! ;-)

Good post! which surely triggers off thoughts..yeah..it's time we ask ourselves what we can do to our country rather than what our country can do for us? As far as the visits to museums are concerned, I guess the amusement parks and the trendy spots have overtaken the traditional outings which we followed in our school days...

That's sad, but true - amusement parks and shopping malls are considered better locations for an excursion -they have their merits, but musuems, art galleries and the lot give you so much more, that enriches your mind & personality and stays with u for the rest of your life, making each ciy you visit different and giving you memories to cherish for a lifetime!

1. Indians hardly frequent museums probably because History is a Nightmare they are trying to wake up from..Apologies to James Joyce.

2.Complaining because there are a species of NRIs whose full time activity is cribbing and cant rest until they say something about "Swadesh"..These are to be avoided at all costs..In fact that makes India ..well..India

3.That would require action and as lazy as some of our people are it would be too much work but certainly we'll appreciate if somebody else could do that for us :-)

Good Insights..Do you read V.S. Naipaul at all?? He does go to the roots of this issue.
