Back from Tinsel Town

Back from Tinsel Town – the city rocks! LOL – the city can be its usual polluted, traffic-jammed, crazy, hot n humid self, but for me, it always works wonders. This time there were no hectic rendezvous with pals and dinner/lunch dates at my favourite restaurants, since I spent most of the time with Ma, shopping, visiting family friends & attending a rather-boring party. Yet, I managed to squeeze in enough to keep me going till the next trip!

Sunday evening was the only time I had to myself – so I packed in several things. Since had decided to attend the Caferati meet in B’bay and read out my short-story I pataoed Madusa to accompany me , thus killing 2 birds with 1 stone. Kunu called up at the last minute, saying he was free so he’d also attend, so I actually managed to meet both of them and do the Caferati bit, all in one go! After the meet I had to meet that incredibly adorable and sexy man, Amit – the meet got over later than I expected and I thought those plans would go awry; fortunately they didn’t, and my mood which was slipping rapidly, was restored before I cracked up in public! Needless to say, rushing across town, asking the rickshaw-walla to step on the gas, was worth it! No more on the subject… ;-)

Monday and Tuesday passed in a haze of meeting family-friends…had to attend a birthday party of a one-year old…I’m afraid I don’t understand the concept of throwing a party to celebrate your child’s 1st birthday party, by inviting 150-200 odd adults to a club. The kid ends up feeling tired and irritable, as he is passed around from one arm to the other; a myriad strangers kiss him and insist he looks “Cho-Chweet” in his brand new “Baba-suit” while the kid is probably feeling stuffy and uncomfortable in the new starched clothes and wondering why the whole world is intent on smothering him!
*Puke*

A cozy family get-together, with a sumptuous meal (keeping in mind that a year-old infant also has to enjoy) seems more appropriate to me. Birthday Parties like this, strike me as a nouveau-riche way of showing off your money and your child to the world, more than a genuine celebration of your child’s birthday. But then, I’m not one to throw birthday parties, having had only one in my life – I’ve always preferred cozy rendezvous with family and friends, over a typical party (blowing out candles, cutting cakes, collecting gifts from a dozen people who were worrying about the month’s budget while buying the gift, and providing food to all of them, ending up tired by the end of your red-letter day!)…ah well, each to his own, I guess.

More often than not, I end up slipping into a cocoon on d'day and spend most of the day there engrossed in introspection. A cozy rendezvous over lunch/dinner with close friends is as far as I go..
