We both lie silently still
in the dead of the night
Although we both lie close together
We feel miles apart inside
Was it something I said or something I did
Did the words not come out right
Though I tried not to hurt you
Though I tried
But I guess that's why they say
Chorus:
Every rose has its thorn
Just like every night has its dawn
Just like every cowboy sings his sad, sad song
Every rose has its thorn
Yeah it does
I listen to our favorite songplaying on the radio
Hear the DJ say loves a game
of easy come and easy go
But I wonder does he know
Has he ever felt like this
And I know you'd be here right now
If I could have let you know somehowI guess
Chorus
Though it's been a while now
I can still feel so much pain
Like a knife that cuts you the wound heals
but the scar, that scar remains
I know I could have saved a love that night
If I'd known what to say
in the dead of the night
Although we both lie close together
We feel miles apart inside
Was it something I said or something I did
Did the words not come out right
Though I tried not to hurt you
Though I tried
But I guess that's why they say
Chorus:
Every rose has its thorn
Just like every night has its dawn
Just like every cowboy sings his sad, sad song
Every rose has its thorn
Yeah it does
I listen to our favorite songplaying on the radio
Hear the DJ say loves a game
of easy come and easy go
But I wonder does he know
Has he ever felt like this
And I know you'd be here right now
If I could have let you know somehowI guess
Chorus
Though it's been a while now
I can still feel so much pain
Like a knife that cuts you the wound heals
but the scar, that scar remains
I know I could have saved a love that night
If I'd known what to say
Instead of makin' love
We both made our separate ways
But now I hear you found somebody new
and that I never meant that much to you
To hear that tears me up inside
And to see you cuts me like a knife
I guess
Chorus
- Poison
We both made our separate ways
But now I hear you found somebody new
and that I never meant that much to you
To hear that tears me up inside
And to see you cuts me like a knife
I guess
Chorus
- Poison
As always the song struck a chord inside me - and then I read this and I wonder if it's possible to walk away, without a backward glance, to move on and build something new?

This used to be one of my favorite songs when I was in college.
Mine too! Though not in college - the song used to be on air when I was in school. I used to prefer the "Unplugged" version better. Those days we had only 1 music channel, MTV, and it would play only English songs...cut to present day and I have to rouse myself at dawn to catch these numbers on Rewind, or else plunge into my collection of oldies to refresh my memory!
every petal that falls strikes a thorn, so is the rose a captive on a thorny fortress or is she there to add beauty to those ungrateful thorns?
Hmm...well Sreekesh, you could look at it both ways.
Are sorrows there to enhanace our happiness, or is happiness there to take the brunt away from the sorrows?

My answer would be no.Its not possible to walk away but you gotta "walk through" it.
A friend of John Milton seemed to have complimented Milton's wife on her complexion and beauty to that of a Rose.Milton replied back sayin you see and enjoy the "rose" where as Milton felt the thorn under it everyday.
Hmm...Milton was married thrice - his first marriage was an unhappy one, and she died in 1652 - he lost his eyesight in 1651, after which he married twice (his 2nd wife also died)- any idea for which wife he said this? And if he said this before or after he was struck by blindness, coz that would change the entire significance of the statement!
If I am not wrong this one was about his first wife..
Thank you Geeta for the comment on my blog...lovely post! "To hear that tears me up inside" kindles some memoirs .....:)
