So I didn't write what I had in mind that day. I started off with it, but we had an unscheduled power-cut just 10 lines down the story. Since I hadn't saved it till then, the 10 lines went poof with the electricity! Grrr...Anyways later that night, I saw to fruition another idea I'd been toying with for the past few days (weeks?)...
I call it The Bus Ride and it's up on Literary Mosaic to be read, discussed and assessed. :-)

Those hurt (10 hours power cuts).
I recently returned to Pune from a long absense I was greeted with a similar 6 hour power cut.
eew power cuts!!...its worse in UP...we have power cuts, load shedding, a burst transformer, technical fault, grid faliure...its crazy and now with the hike in diesel prices...generators too are going to hurt.
power cuts?? gurl u dono wats power cuts unless u live wid me...this is an invitation btw...

nto to mention the stupid inverter makes a loud buzzing noise...my sympathies...

Akshay - LOL it's actually become better since those Shiv Sainiks went and vandalised the Elec Board office! Who'd have ever thought their strong arm tactics would be of ANY good? Glad the state is buying surplus power frm other states now...if not, the new plan was to have 4 hour cuts 5 days a week PLUS one day on no elec frm 10-5! Shudder!
Gulnaz - Yeah this was getting almost as bad as UP,Haryana etc. We're appretnly now buying surplus power from Punjab and AP I think. It's amazing how despite this big prob of electricity, the municipalities and city governing institutes still happily sanction all those crazy amt of billboards that suck up so much elec - do we really need to be using up precious resources for mere advtg of products? Like we don't have enough of advtg already and like they really help the city-scape! (After the recent spate of these billboards falling down during wind/rain storms in Pune, I wonder abt their safety also!)
Elixir - Power cuts in Bbay? Horror or horrors! Yaar couldn't shop at all in Delhi - was landlocked at home ;-)
I know they vandalized the MSEB office. I usually don't support activities of the Shiv Sainiks but they are making me rethinking that.

There are water cuts now. Water cuts. water. cuts. I have to wake up early now, just so I can bathe. Grrrrr.

honestly gee, this govt. of ours should concentrate all their energy on solving this power crisis. running a factory or such in towns like mine is impossible without generators and these hidden costs make us less competitive...crazy. on the one hand there are many roads here withougt streelights and on the other side there are silly L A Vegas Style electric palm trees, crass and eeew!
Akshay - Sadly powercuts aren't the only reason ppl resort to vandalism and such. And sadly it isn't the right way and doesn't always lead to improvement of situations.

Phal & Elixir - Sshh...don't talk so loudly abt power n water cuts in Bbay. I've told ppl here all about how great a city it is...you're going to spoil the image of Bbay this way;-) Seriously though, Bbay perhaps faces the least amt of elec n water problems in the entire country. I read that the recent shortage is becoz of the hue n cry all over the state abt why Bbayy is exempt frm the cuts when the rest of the State is reeling under the effects of the shortage. Hmmmm

Those elec palm trees really are so kitschy and awful! Ane eyesore is what they are...when will we learn that what works for the Americans doesn't necessarily work for us?
I know Bbay faces the least amount of problems, but hell I'm just a lazy character who seems to be moving on to becomint a sloth so I can crib. Tomorrow, Ill be unselfish and feel bad for the rest of the world.
