Fleeting Moments...

I've never had any fascination for Handycams; infact I find it quite irksome when people suddenly fish out the gadget and decide to tape you and the way you sit, talk, walk and eat at some party/family function of sorts. But in the last one week or so, I've been wishing we had one - the digicam suddenly isn't enough!

I have been frequently entrusted with the job of looking over my little nephew while he's sleeping, or just about to wake up. I'd heard of how it's difficult to leave 3-4 month old alone because by then they start trying to turn over and tend to topple off from thier cradle/bed...my little nephew is already trying to do that at 3 weeks! If he's even slightly elevated, he pushes himself and tries his best to turn over and see the world on the other side! Anyways that's not what I really want to record - what I want to record is those myriad fleeting expressions that flit across his face in the 15-20 minutes just before he's going to get up. :-)

It's a little like a photo-shoot - he smiles, he frowns, he scowls, he yawns, he pouts; he looks pensive, content, dreamy, upset, sad, happy....not to mention the style in which he sleeps. It's most amusing to see the poses he strikes while sleeping - like watching my brother in miniature form sleeping (my brother can contort himself into the most acrobatic positions while sleeping, but try getting him to do a simple yoga exercise - he's the most unflexible person around!). These few minutes before my nephew wakes up are to me the most precious moments with him - the rest of the time I'm too concerned with practical aspects of taking care of a baby to really fuss over how cute he is!

Have been staying away from him the last couple of days, because I'm scared of infecting him with a cold - Ma had a cold. I was fine till Saturday evening - came back home and within half-an-hour she had passed onto me a full-blown cold. Damn but why do I come down so quick? Anyways I was totally dying yesterday - a friend today asked if I'd will my Mythology book to him, since I am approaching my death bed slowly and surely...it's so true the acid-test of your friendship comes when you're down and out!!! ;-) Muhahaha...

"Oh my sleeping child,
The world's so wild,
But you built your own paradise"

Great lines from Michael learns to Rock..and quite apt here. Your description of him matches the R.E.M (Not the Pop group !!) but the Rapid Eye Movement Phase of sleep.

Oh, new look for the blog and all that. Well, I am back from Bombay or Hotbay as I would like to call it now. Great times made greater by your resto suggestions. Here goes the official word: Thankoooo!!! You were right, I was especially surprised by Lokhandwala (considering that is where my parents live now and I saw that every single day of my trip). Bombay rocks for sure, albeit to a beat slightly new for me :-)

Amit - Oh that song - used to like MLTR those days, till ALL their songs started sounding alike! YOu know I had no idea that R.E.M sleep patterns could be observed in such young babies as well...

Elixir - Uploading new pics on Flickr right now :-)

Aparna - *horrified*

Parth - Hey cool, glad those resto suggestions helped! So what think thee of new lay-out? Shall head to your blog next - hope to see an update :-)

Think, clicking the magical "kodak" moments would be much better than shooting the whole movie. Expressions look awesome in pictures, rather than watching them on video. What say?

Saw the pic of ur nephew..he is cute...touchwood :)
