The Wonder Years (1988-1993)

I'm from that generation that witnessed the entry of "Cable TV" into their homes and watched English programmes on a rationed Star Plus that was initially aired only in the evenings and gradually became a 24/7 channel. I grew up watching The Wonder Years, that awesome, warm, intelligent, lovely, bitter-sweet tale of Kevin Arnold growing up in suburban USA - I kinda grew up with him and miss watching it. Went back to some quotes from the show - here are my favourites:-

“All our young lives we search for someone to love. Someone who makes us complete. We choose partners and change partners. We dance to a song of heartbreak and hope... all the while wondering if somewhere, somehow, there's someone perfect... who might be searching for us.”

“Growing up is never easy. You hold on to things that were. You wonder what's to come. But that night, I think we knew it was time to let go of what had been, and look ahead to what would be. Other days. New days. Days to come. The thing is, we didn't have to hate each other for getting older. We just had to forgive ourselves... for growing up.”

"Change is never easy. You fight to hold on. You fight to let go. "

"Love can tear and rip you apart. It can kill you. But if you’re lucky, it can put you back together. "

"Winnie Cooper: Yes I do like him.. not like-him-like-him but yes I do like him."

stumbled onto your blog.

i'm from the generation that missed out on the Wonder years when it was telecasted in Star Plus, and saw all the 115 episodes in one go downloaded from the internet. :)

reading thru your blog reminded me of some of my favourite episodes and quotes.

especially loved Summer song and Dont you know anything about women.

"Why couldn't things be simple, the way they used to be, in the sixth grade?"

"I remember a place...a town...a house
like a lot of other houses...
A yard like a lot of other yards...
On a street like a lot of other streets.
And the thing is...After all these years,
I still look back...with WONDER."

thanks for reminding me about a sweet memory from the past.

hmm, high praises. i watched a few episodes on and off, and it always looked so dated to me. but maybe i have to revisit sometime to see what the fuss is all about.

It has killed me...It has ripped and torn me apart..I am waiting to be healed. Can't do it by myself. Need someone. To put it back together. May be i could do the same for him...May be....

Kitana - I made that solmen pledge to myself when I recently joint the Wonder Years community and realised how much I miss seeing it!

Lakesidey - You HAVE the series on CD? Can I please please get a copy?

Naresh - Thanks - it's been a long time since I saw the series so I'm afraid I don't remember the episode titles! Cool quotes those - but then all of the series is cool!

Kitana - LOL maddo...

Nocturne - Well considering it dealt with the 60s-70s period which is ancient past for us 21st century people ;-) I can imagine why it looked dated...but does being dated mean not good? Give it a shot - it's a fab show, ofcourse best seen when you're growing up and have so much to identify with, relate to and learn from!

WR :- *smiles back*

SATC - Well the post was actually abt The Wonder Years and not your love life, but since you've said it - personally I think we try to hard to find love. Maybe if we just gave it a rest, then it wouldn't be so bloody difficult to find it and maybe then it would be easier to deal with it as well! Ah well, one never knows with these things. All the best buddy!

I remember that series and remember enjoying it then. Whatever happened to that actor after taht. There was one more popular serial around that time: Dougie Howser MD.

Parth - Hmmm, I vaguely remember seeing him in a couple of films but then he disappeared...as for Doogie Howser, he was such a sweetheart! those shows were SO MUCH FUN na?

i really liked the episode in which Kevin goes to a basketball game alongwith his father, though he never really wanted his father to come alongwith him.
and he cheers wildly for a friend who is playing for the home team/his college team to win the match, but in the end the team Kevin is supporting loses the match. And Kevin and his father drop into a restaurant for a quick snacks. Then, Kevin's father starts speaking and Kevin thinks that his father made sense and declares his father is 'a hero'. And soon the narrator starts speaking with the actors name going from south-to-north of your TV screen. I dont remember what the narrator speaks during the end of that episode, but it was really poetic for sure!

@parth: i saw kevin in a bit role in The Princess Bride, and remember his face in a few other movies, but that's about all.

Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them... when Kevin suddenly finds himself pushed into becoming class president or something. Can't remember too well now, but totally loved the series.
