Volatile City...

  • Read About It.

  • It created a lot of panic, but for some reason I was calm. I couldn't, for the life of me, understand why people had to suddenly start calling up relatives who are no where near South Mumbai where all this happened. Or why they had to start saying that roads are unsafe, or increase the number of actual bomb blasts from 2 to 10!! Sure it's serious, but does that warrant wide-spread panic that only makes the job of the law enforcers more difficult? It doesn't do any good for your own BP either! Proceed calmly to your homes and watch the news, instead of getting hyper, spreading rumours and acting like silly sheep!

On a more serious note, this is getting scarier. Makes you stop and wonder where we are all careening to? This is supposed to be a 'safe' city, but how ironic is that, in light of yesterday's events? I could have been strolling towards Gateway of India and that would be it for me, right? And what does this achieve? All I see is mayhem, chaos, loss of lives, property damaged, economic losses...not one thing positive. A friend commented that when something good happens we say its coz of God, what about this, coz it is Him who controls the Universe ultimately. Could He decree this? I don't know since I don't believe its God that makes us do things...we are the makers of our own destiny, and its sad destiny that we are writing for ourselves.

Finally I'm personally hurt. That part of the city holds many a fond memory. It is the pride of Mumbai. The quintessence of the city. To have it defiled in such a gruesome manner, makes me sick. Yes, to have any part of the city defiled in such a way is sick, but the Gateway of India? That's a historic monument that needs to be preserved, cherished, not made a pawn in a game of terrorism/politics.
