Off late I've started wearing alot of skirts...wrap arounds, ankle lengths, slit up the side, short denim, shorter denim ;)...I shied away from wearing the 2 skirts I had in my cupboard till last year, but in the time-span of a year I've bought loads more and wear them almost as much as I do jeans...anyways since it's so hot these days, skirts are definitely the better option...more ventilation being the primary reason!!!
Last week I happened to wear skirts for three days consecutively and got strange reactions for people each time...mostly funny, but one rather creepy...
1) Walking down Hill road after my AF class, I cross this woman who sells hats at the Ban of India corner...when I crossed her, she looked me up and down and said "Itna bhi kyu pehna hai" - I was flummoxed coz I was wearing an ankle length skirt and thought she meant someone else, but she clarified by saying - "Kapda le kar bandh liye kamar par, ek side par phad diya aur usko "sikart" bolte hain!" To say I was amused by her description of my skirt is an under statement, I was chuckling all the way upto the bus-stop.
2) Went to class again wearing a wrap-around skirt - I got this stitched from a material that comes from Assam and is used for the traditional dress there...so it looks different...anyways a classmate of mine thought I'm wearing a lungi, coz I was wearing it with a kurta! Sure I know it looks a bit like a lungi, but well I was kinda deflated! LOL! And then a lady in my building complimented my "body-wrapper" !!!
3) The day I went for La Nuit de Publivores at Jai Hind I was wearing a denim skirt..we met up at Churchgate station and then walked up to Jai Hind together...I was there first and then another girl from class arrived...both of us were wearing denim skirts, her's was a bit shorter than mine...the number of men who passed by leering at our legs was not funny! And as if that wasn't enough, there was a group of men who were standing just opposite us very pointedly looking at our bare legs...CREEPY VERY CREEPY!!!
