On Monday I blogged about the murder of Akku Yadav.
Last night, I saw on NDTV, that apart from the 5 women who have been arrested for murdering him, 400 women of the Kastuba Basti are ready to surrender if the women are convicted for their action.
I couldn't find an article reporting this new development in the TOI - not sensational enough for them, I guess. Anyways I hope the court does have the sense not to convict the women - on one hand it would be like saying it's Ok to murder someone who's oppressing you. Murder shouldn't be justified in anyway - in my opinion doing that would just abet crimes even more. But the women definitely should not be punished for taking the step that the Courts of Law should have - he was, after all, wanted for several cases of rape, dacoit and murder. Hardly reprehensible that the women lost hope in a system, that took over a decade to hang another rapist, and took things into their own hands.

LOL you seriously, seriously tried to find the article in TOI? That newspaper is worthy only when it is used for making paper bags, for serving 'chana', or when used for cleaning filthy surfaces. Too bad they don't recycle newspapers into toilet paper. Personal experience tells me that even if a story there has not been invented, chances are that the facts have been greatly contorted and misrepresented...
Perhaps The Hindu is a better bet for serious journalism. But these days, who can really say? The Indian Press seems to be veering toward tabloids & 'sensational' journalism - rather than printing something newsworthy and relevant. I guess that a phenomenon almost world over.
And the Press can be bought.
So what can the Common Man believe? Newspapers? Television media? The Internet (most of the junta don't even know this exists!)? Is there no hope for our right to unadulterated, unbiased News?
Sadly Daddy Dearest refuses to change the newpaper subscription to any other paper - I think its coz he gets other papers at work - so I have ONLY tabloidy TOI at home...for anything else I must access the internet, which luckily I have access to.
Well... there is a reason that the court is called "Court of Law" and not "Court of Justice"...
There will always be people who do injustice and get away in the court of law. These women took justice into their own hands, but make no mistake they did break a law. As much as we all would like to see them acquitted, the truth shall remain that they broke a law. I do not believe that they should be acquitted just because they lynched a person who deserved a fate even worse than the one he was meted out.
I think they should all serve their time in a prison... and show to the rest of the country that they were willing to uphold justice no matter what the cost.
how is u daring to attack a newspaper as brilliant as the times of india. u know how old it is? it is the 'masthead' of our country. it is been known for excellent reporting through historical times and ages. i love bombay times, infact i wait egerly for those news every morningi and it is making my day. what women and hot men on page 3 and 2 and 4 and 5 and 6. it is like indian playboy or penthouse, eh? and very very carefully thought out and made up surveys. they give scientists in US run for money.
Btw, what's that sad shit about the Readership Ratings that TOI kept recycling a couple of months ago? How are newspaper readership surveys conducted anyways?
And me likes long e letters on my LJ :D ...

Hmmmm, I am not sure it's a proper gesture to indirectly allow murderers to go free. This might prompt some partially crazy people to go around on a murdering spree and claim that they were only punishing bad people.
